Rather rude, jumping straight in without even an introduction (which I will do shortly), but I was... surprised... to see the regional groupings. Whoever constructed them clearly never had the misfortune to live in the old and now utterly abandoned 'Avon'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avon_(county)I suppose I am being slightly daft. The river herself is a beautiful if twice named stretch of water, and I have no quarrel with her. To use her name to denote a geographical area however, raises memories of a short-lived council best left to history.

Hi Bish i know how you feel but I am still working on a regional map I have had since 1971 its an antique. The regions are a left over thing from when the PF first started and there was only me as RC Gloucestershire I covered 10 counties including south wales and the Isle of Wight what is the correct term? we use postcodes to denote an area.bb jan hardy

oops. just got my Standing Stone and it reminded me to visit here again. I accept the difficulty of calling everything the south west. Where I am is the English west country - too far up to be south west, but not the midlands! lol. From my window I can almost see the county border between South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire, at the end of my village.
